Project MicroUpdate 1

Project MicroUpdate 1

Hey fans and friends!

As you might have noticed, we’ve switched over to our official Forest Heart Imgur account–and before you say anything, YES, Michael (Graphically) is still working for us! We decided that we wanted to do a little makeover of our public image, so we got a new Imgur account, and–more importantly–we’ve given our website a complete overhaul! The new theme is gorgeous, and much more user-friendly than the old one. Check it out, and we’d love to hear what you guys think of our updates!

So, on to business: We haven’t posted an update in a while, and we’re sorry! Green Dot Games has been really, extremely, immensely busy. And we know what you guys are thinking: “What’s taken you guys so long?” and to that we say:

We’re finally making you a video game. No, we know…  But this time, we’re literally programming the game!

Since we rolled out our last update, we’ve made several advancements with regard to the process of developing the game. Notable changes include:

  • Disposing of our original, slow ‘assembly line’ method of game creation. Our process is now more akin to the faster, think-tank style that many successful game studios use. In doing so, we’ve made sure our priorities within the company are met, and that all our departments have important work being done consistently! No more down-time!
  • Implementing a multi-faceted and fair plan to compensate our contributors.
  • Finishing our first playable chunk, so we can start internal testing of game mechanics and functionality while we continue to develop the rest of the game.
  • Assembling our Advanced Design Expedition Force (ADEF), a group of badasses who will ultimately determine definitive core concepts that meet our high standards.
  • Creating a small focus group to represent our target market. They will be working with the ADEF to ensure that our game appeals to a wide audience, voicing their comments, critiques and concerns, and being the advocates for you, the player!

If you’re interested in being a member of our focus group, check out the application here!

Now, this update is just MicroUpdate 1, leading up to our full update, which will showcase all our latest accomplishments. Our full update will be published the evening of Monday, July 13th, with exciting videos, actual sounds, and production-ready components that are part of this process: so keep your eyes on the front page!

Green Dot Games is making a ton of headway; in just a few short months, we’ve gone from a group of Imgurians with a cool idea, to an organized team turning that idea into a playable game. We can’t stress enough how appreciative we all are of your continued support here and across social media; every Facebook like, every retweet–it all adds up to make a big difference!

If you’re looking to do more than just support us on social media, we also have plenty of positions we’re looking to fill! At Green Dot Games we know that dedication, passion, and having a good head on your shoulders are extremely important qualities; we look at our applicants beyond just their experience (or lack thereof). If you’re interested in joining the team, head on over to our site to see what positions we’re looking to fill, and apply!

Some of the positions we’re looking for are:

  • 3D Artists
  • Riggers
  • Animators
  • Level Artists
  • Programmers
  • A Project Manager
  • Customer Service Specialists

We’re also always looking for industry professionals, dedicated hobbyists, and any other talented individuals who share our passion for making great games! If you want to help out, but don’t see an open position that includes your particular skills, shoot us a message and get in touch!

So far, this has been one crazy ride for everyone at Green Dot Games. We’ve had tons of fun and made lifelong friends, we’ve gained plenty of knowledge and experience, and soon Green Dot Games will have accomplished something no other group has done. To the best of our knowledge, we are shaping up to be the largest internet video game development collaboration ever, and dammit, this game will get made even if it kills us! Our Director of Public Image (and unofficial team drill sergeant) Morgan Hardcastle has a saying: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. And if it does kill you, walk it off!”
